Experience/Background

Prior to arriving here at Lynchburg College, I spent five years teaching part-time at Lenoir-Rhyne College, Catawba Valley Community College and working as a consultant with industry.  Through my consulting work, I taught many courses on environmental compliance, worked with the United States Environmental Protection Agency and North Carolina Department of Environmental and Natural Resources on compliance issues and conducted many phases of environmental research for the textile industry.  Prior to my employment in North Carolina I spent two years as a consultant working on lake management issues throughout the Finger Lakes Region of New York State

· B.S. in Biology 1984 Guilford College

· M.S.P.H. in Environmental Biology 1988 University of North Carolina School of Public Health

· Ph.D. in Zoology 1992 North Carolina State University

Research Interests

I am interested in aquatic ecology, lake management and environmental compliance.  Much of my research has centered on  trophic cascade theory application to southeastern reservoir ecosystems.  Additionally, I  work with wastewater compliance issues in industry and the application of whole effluent toxicity in NPDES permitting.

Personal Info/Interests

I enjoy spending time hiking, biking, reading and playing with my three kids Samson, Kristin, David and my wife Trudy.  Whenever I can get away I enjoy golfing during the summer months, watching football in the fall, skiing during the winter and fishing in the spring.
