Blackwater / Ivy Creek Water Quality Study

The Freshwater Ecology Laboratory is in its 5th year of

a study and to draw conclusions concerning the Blackwater

Creek Watershed in Lynchburg Virginia.

We have designated six sites throughout the watershed for

continued study.  Each study site is characterized according

to type of land use that surrounds the area.  These designations

are: agricultural based on farming and other agricultural

practices in this portion of the watershed, forested/pasture

based on undisturbed or grasslands in the area, urban based

on high development throughout the area, suburban based on

moderate development, recovery based on forested/pasture in

the latter portions of the watershed, and restoration based on

work in this area to improve the conditions of the watershed.

Each of these designations must be considered when analyzing

each of the study areas.

The Reports represented here demonstrate the work of this class in monitoring the water quality of this important river throughout the city of Lynchburg, Campbell and Bedford Counties.
