Final Report
Every final report should contain the following sections
Report 1 (non education minor)
Report should be between 20 and 25 pages. The Results section should consist of primarily high-level mathematics (approved by your faculty advisor). This should include detailed definitions and statements and proofs of key theorems. The format should be consistent with those found in major mathematics journals. In order to earn a grade of "A" the report must contain some original mathematics.
Report 2 (option for students pursuing an education minor)
Report should be between 35 and 40 pages. This report will explore a high-level mathematics topic (approved by your faculty advisor) and create a two week teaching module at the secondary level. The report will include:
detailed lesson plans (10-15 pages) will include:
i) projects
ii) assignments
iii) manipulatives
iv) list of appropriate SOLs
This module must integrate at least one other discipline.
Standard Format
1. TITLE
·
fewer than twelve words
·
reflects the factual content of the paper
2. ABSTRACT
·
fewer than 200 words
·
good summary of project
3. INTRODUCTION
·
aimed appropriately
·
describes purpose(s) or objective(s) for the research performed
·
provides background information on the problem and/or area studied
4. RESULTS (when
applicable)
·
tables and figures presented
·
statements of definitions and theorems pertinent to results in
question
5.
CONCLUSION/DISCUSSION
·
integrates results with background information
·
possible future research are presented
·
relevance of the research is discussed
6. LITERATURE CITED
·
follows standard journal format as decided upon by your faculty
mentor
7. APPENDICES
·
additions to the text if needed
