Plan Description
This master partnership between Lynchburg College and the Robert E. Lee Soil and Water Conservation District was recently established to formally recognize ongoing collaboration between these two parties and to encourage a continuing, productive relationship. The partnership provides Lynchburg College students opportunities for applied training in environmental science, and allows personnel from the District to obtain assiatance in addressing conservation issues. Both parties understand the importance of training and education as part of a collaborative, outreach program. Together, the College and the District are working to ensure professional development, solid research, and sound management strategies.
Primary Objectives
- To provide Lynchburg College students with field experiences in the field of environmental science, specifically:
a. water quality assessment
b. geographical landuse impacts
c. watershed conservation and management
d. database systems
- To provide assistance to the District in collecting field data, performing water quality analyses, and developing conservation management plans
- To offer training opportunities for District personnel in the fields of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and other areas as needed
- To promote community awareness of sound watershed stewardship
