ENVS 240, 399, and 440


As shown on the Requirements for Major, students must participate in at least one out of class activity.   Students may take more than one of these courses and may even take all three, with the additional courses counting as elective credit for the major.

240 INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH (3)
Prerequisite: approval of sponsoring instructor. An independent opportunity to be involved with research on an environmental topic of interest. Students conduct literary research and/or assist in equipment preparation and maintenance, field and laboratory work, and data collection and assessment.

399 INTERNSHIP IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE (1-6)
Prerequisite: ENVS 101-102 and approval of sponsoring instructor. Offered to qualified students allowing them to gain personal, practical experience in various areas of environmental science. Internships include, but are not limited to, working in environmental laboratories, natural resources conservation, restoration of natural areas, and help with research projects conducted by senior scientists and engineers.

440 ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH (3)
Prerequisite: At least 40 hours from the Environmental Science major curriculum and approval of sponsoring instructor.   A specially designed research project will be conducted which is devoted to problem-solving in a topic of environmental science. A paper will be submitted and a seminar presented on the results of the study.
